The owners of a cinema in West Cumbria are delighted to have finally announced the opening date of the building.

Family-run Ritz Cinema, situated in Workington town centre, will welcome audiences to their Grand Opening on Thursday September 30, with the new James Bond film ‘No Time to Die’ the premiere movie.

Discussing how it felt to see the cinema finally opening, Daryl Davidson, Head of Operations and Finance said: “We’re really excited about it and can’t wait to show it off. Of course, we are a little bit nervous and we hope people are going to like it but yes, we’re very excited.”

The cinema, located at the top of John Peel House, has undergone a whole new look internally. Speaking of the work, Mrs Davidson shared: “When you walk through the doors you will see the kiosk in front of you and to the left will be a variety of tables for guests to take a seat and meet up with their friends and have a drink before the film starts. Once they have their tickets they will then be able to make their way to one of our three screens.”

Tickets for the movie, which will see Daniel Craig take his last steps as 007, went on-sale via the cinema’s website on Thursday (16th). When asked how they think the levels of interest will be, Daryl explained: “We think demand is going to be high. They aren’t huge screens but we will still be retaining a seat between parties within them. With that we think that the demand will outstrip what we can provide so we are going to keep showing the film over a period of time so everyone has a chance of getting in to see it.”

The cinema has already held trial screenings and Mrs Davidson feels that customers may decide that smaller screens may be the way we enjoy movies in the future. She said: “We decided to open the cinema with the local community in mind and we have received a great response. We just hope that the community enjoy visiting the Ritz.”
