This WEEK a rugby league legend will say goodbye to Whitehaven RLFC after a ten year career.
Jessie Joe Parker recently announced that he would be retiring.
His final match will be held this Sunday at the Whitehaven LEL arena.
Andrew Canavan from Whitehaven Rugby League said: "The club would like to put on the record it’s sincere thank you to Jessie Joe Parker for his ten years of fantastic service, not only to the club but to the whole area.
"Along with being a legend in West Cumbria, Jessie is also a hugely popular figure back home in Papua New Guinea, such is his standing in the game."
Jesse came to the UK on the back of an outstanding World Cup and was originally signed to Wakefield before moving to Whitehaven.
Jessie went to extraordinary lengths to get involved with the community especially with the local kids.
We were told that one day some children were playing rugby on the play pitch at Kells.
He personally bought them all a drink and spent the day coaching them and giving them rugby tips.
There will be a bucket collection at Sunday's game and the testimonial event at The Marchon Club on 17th September will be going ahead.
You can use the Testimonial Facebook page to purchase tickets.
Mr Canavan added: "It has been a pleasure getting to know Jesse since my involvement with the club in 2018, he is a wonderful person and one who always gives 110%."
