TRADERS and businesses are preparing for the return of the Westmorland County Show this coming weekend.

The Westmorland County Show and Agricultural Society will take place on September 8 and 9.

The show could not take place last year due to Covid restrictions, however many are anticipating a grand return since the show was announced.

Taking place on Lane Farm in Milnthorpe, the event is one of the largest and oldest livestock shows in the country.

Lisa Smith, of Ginger Bakers, has appeared at the show on many years and predicts a revival for many businesses with new potential customers attending the show.

Lisa said: "I'm really looking forward to these two days.

"It's great that it can come back.

"We've got a lot of new things coming this year and it's a great chance for many business to convert new customers. We're been at the show for about 14 years so far."

The Cumbrian Axemen will see the show as their 'swan song' as the company will be disbanding after the event.

Founder Rob Bell said: "This will be our final show and final event.

"We started back at the Westmorland Show in 1999 so its fitting we end there. It will be out swan song really. But we'll have the UK champion Elgan Pugh with us and know it'll be a fantastic show as always."

Vintage Tractors will be entering a record number of machines into this years show to mark its return.

Edward Woof said: "We first had 12 tractors in the show, now its a record breaking 44.

"We'll be bringing a display of Ford and Tractors from 1900 to present day which we're excited about.

"We can't wait for it. This will be about our 40th time there."
