HOME buyers have become increasingly aware of the value that a decent garden space can add to your life.

Though even small garden can be transformed into something special, having more space outside can give you the perfect place to unwind and indulge your creative flair, designing your very own green sanctuary.
We have brought together some of the more interesting garden-blessed properties currently on the market in Cumbria.

All are currently being advertised on the Zoopla website.

* A four-bedroomed property in Skinburness Road, Silloth, which is new to the market, is spacious inside and out. The wrap-around garden includes three outbuildings, a wood-store and a shed. An abundance of windows gives this house a light, airy feel inside. There is also a drive and a garage. It is being marketed by Your Move in Wigton with an asking price of £350,000.

* Another property with garden potential is in North Street, Denton Holme, Carlisle. Though not large, the garden is currently a blank canvas and has the potential to be something special if the new owner invests time, money and care into it. A two-bedroomed terrace, this property would be an ideal starter home as it has just come on to the market for £110,000. It has the added advantage of being on a quiet no through road. It is being marketed by Homesearch Direct.

* There are times when a picture tells you all you need to know. That is certainly true for the three bedroom semi at Etterby Lea Crescent, Carlisle. You only have to see the first photo of the rear garden to know that the current owner has treated it as a labour of love. Genuinely stunning, this is a garden that would not look out of place were it to be somehow transported to Chelsea Flower Show. There is ample space, all of it used expertly to create a vibrant display, with the many flowers complemented by hedges, trees and lawns as well as a bridge over a pond. The view from the conservatory is stunning. It is being marketed by Your Move, with an asking price of £195,000.

* The garden potential of the house in Loop Road South, Whitehaven, is obvious. Within easy reach of the town centre, this area has long been popular with families. As well as offering a lot of living space, this property has an elevated position and ample space that could be transformed into something truly special with a bit of imagination and hard work. This home is on the market for £259,000 and is being sold by Purple Bricks.

* The garden to the rear of the double-fronted home in Foxhouses Road, Whitehaven, is described as "tranquil." On the market for a reasonable £160,000, this property seems to have it all. Classy throughout, it has a garden where the owner can enjoy space, privacy and greenery. The estate agent is exp UK.

* You'd be hard-pressed to find a setting more natural and green than that the one that comes with Poppythorn Cottage and Cobblestones in Alston. A stone-built barn conversion, the cottage comes with a separate two-bedroomed apartment, currently utilised as a holiday let. Standing above the River Nent in the foothills of Alston Moor, it has beautiful gardens. This property is being marketed by Finest Properties with an asking price of £375,000.

* Also impressive - as a house and a garden - is the property on the market in Church Street, Frizington. This four-bedroom detached house is impressive in itself - but from almost every window, it seems, there are views of a garden that would soothe the most troubled mind. The advert states that the garden has been "lovingly, and meticulously, maintained and boasts a lawned area, and a large variety of mature plants, flowers and shrubs." The asking price is £254,500 and the agent is First Choice Move Ltd.
