Whitehaven RLFC will face a big game this weekend when they take on Widnes Vikings.

They will face off against the Vikings on Sunday 29th August at 3pm over the bank holiday weekend.

The team are sure that this will be a big challenge for them against a side like Widnes but they are remaining optimistic.

Assistant Coach, Jonty Gorley, said: "It all depends on how it goes when we play.

"When we play well we really do but we need to be on our A game with teams like Widnes.

"It all goes down to our performance on the day."

After a very successful season Jonty explains that Whitehaven became a bit unstuck when playing against York last week.

The side lost 30-12 away to York City Knights and are hoping to not repeat the performance this coming weekend.

Last weekend's performance shouldn't cast any doubt on the outcome this weekend.

Whitehaven's performance this season has been exceptional and they'll be looking to work really hard against Widnes.

The Vikings are a strong side and its arguable that they have underachieved this season.

Mr Gorley said: "With their history they deserve to be higher than where they are in the league.

"But taking nothing away from them they'll be a big challenge.

"When Whitehaven train this week we will all be gutted with the result but we'll hope that we can hit our mark this week.

"After winning almost all of our matches this season we don't want to run into any trouble."

Jonty explained that overall he's really pleased with their performance this season.

Now that they're in the Championship staying in it will be a success.

The match will be played at home at the Recreation Ground and all fans are encouraged to come down and witness to action.
