A WOMAN is showing her gratitude for the NHS and key workers – by organising a concert to celebrate their hard work.

Frances Flanagan, of Cleator Moor, has been helping others throughout the coronavirus pandemic – packaging hampers for those on the frontline or in isolation, and setting up the Facebook raffle group, Ip Dip, to raise funds for causes, including the ICU at West Cumberland Hospital.

The group raised almost £20,000, with all funds going to causes throughout Copeland, including feeding the homeless and vulnerable, supporting animal shelters, providing children with Christmas presents and helping families in need.

And now she is holding a special concert as a thank you to key workers and to raise money for the West Cumberland Hospital.

It will be held at Whitehaven’s LEL Arena on August 21.

The 32-year-old said: “I wanted to do something for hospital workers. Instead of just giving them money people have just taken them for granted, really.

“I thought it would be nice to do a massive party for everyone after lockdown.”

Speaking about celebrating NHS workers, Frances said: “People have just taken them for granted, really.

“If someone said to me, you have to wear full PPE like they’ve had to the past 18 months, when you read the stories, it’s horrible.

“I’ve just had Covid myself and you don’t realise until you actually have it. It’s knocked me for six. I’m still struggling with energy. It will be nice for everyone to get over the restrictions and lockdown. I just think everyone deserves a treat and a party.”

Tickets for the event are £10. All money raised will go to West Cumberland Hospital.

The event is open to everyone — not just NHS staff and key workers.

It will take place between 12pm and 10pm.

There are 300 free tickets available for any key workers who have worked throughout the pandemic.

Local acts including Jolan and the Beatles Boy will take to the stage, along with Queen, Cher and Pink tribute acts.

Tickets can be bought at Skiddle.com, via the Facebook page Thank You NHS and Key Workers, or by calling Frances on 07544 664473.
