Works to improve the look of Whitehaven harbour continue to move forward - with the benches now being given a makeover.

The seating has been refurbished by Quality Cleaning Services, on behalf of Whitehaven Harbour Commissioners, and now looks as good as new.

It is part of major overhaul of the entire marina, which has already included a revamp of the Wave and the Crow's Nest landmarks.

Speaking about the latest improvements, John Baker, CEO of Whitehaven Harbour Commissioners, said: "They've been positively received. We've had lots of good comments.

"They look really smart. I think they make a difference for people walking around the harbour.

"They've done a really good job with them. They've come up really well. It's another small step in the right direction, with more to come."

Mr Baker is looking ahead to further improvements and "attacking the more iconic assets" of the town's harbour.

He said: "There's still plenty to go at. There are key assets we still need to get done. Any small steps we can take is positive.

"The festival lights, the lighthouse, the Wave, we've got quite a lot to go at.

"We're just trying, day-by-day, to improve the place further."

A Facebook campaign was launched earlier this year to save the town’s iconic lighthouses.

It was later taken down after the man behind it, Mark Johnson, met with Mr Baker, and was encouraged by what he had to say.

John Baker became CEO of the Whitehaven Harbour Commissioners in January, taking over from Celia MacKenzie.
