A CAKE baking contest is scheduled to take place in Windermere on August 8.

Staged in the grounds of St Martin and St Mary’s CE primary school on Prince’s Road, the event will host the Lake District Cake of the Year Championship. This will be a charity event with all funds raised going to the Teenage Cancer Trust. Stalls and entertainment will be lined up including a falconry display, jugglers, a bouncy castle, crafts and sweets, and there will be food and refreshments from Yardies Jamaican Street Food.

Lakeland Radio will be broadcasting live from the field through the afternoon.

The event is sponsored by James Cropper PLC, and a number of other local businesses are supporting the fair and offering raffle prizes, among them Cunninghams Outdoors, Fullpoint Design, Cedar Manor Hotel, Zeffirellis, Lake District Falconry, Windermere Lake Cruises and Mathilde’s café in Grasmere.

The day will be organised by Jen Braithwaite and Eileen Jones of JB Cumbria.

Jen said: “We know that everyone has struggled over the past year and wanted to organise a community event that would truly bring some joy back into all of our lives.

"And everyone loves cake."
