A ROAD in Egremont town centre is set to reopen this week.

In a notice served by Cumbria County Council, the U4032 Briscoe Road, Egremont had been closed, 300m north-east of its junction with Briscoe Mount extending in a north-easterly direction.

The county council confirmed that the ruling was put in place due to highway works that were planned for the area.

The ruling applied to all vehicles, although some exceptions did apply.

Alternative routes via the unrestricted sections of the U4032, C4017, A5086 and A595 were still available.

For the remainder of the ruling which should be lifted on July 23, a way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.

The eligible exceptions to the rulings can be viewed online.
