An AMATEUR football club in Whitehaven is raising money for improvements to there football pitch.

Whitehaven Miners have been hosting fundraising events for their water damaged pitch.

Lee Coan, 40, from Kells said: "The drainage on the pitch is failing it's backing up so we want to have the full field drained."

Over the past few weeks the football club has organised a bingo, a race night and a car wash and has so far managed to raise £1800.

But they are a long way off their target and are looking to organise another race night this weekend.

Local businesses have helped out by providing prizes at their events.

Mr. Coan said: "If anyone can help can they please come forward."

Coronavirus restrictions have made efforts more difficult as the club are not allowed full capacity.
