A popular railway is gearing up to celebrate its 60th anniversary of service with a landmark celebration.

The iconic Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway will mark the occasion with two days of family friendly gala fun next month on July 10 and July 11.

As paet of the marking of the 60th anniversary of the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway Preservation Society, the vent feature a range of nine steam and diesel locomotives owned by both the Preservation Society and the railway itself.

Amongst them will be the restored 125-year-old Katie and River Irt, which is the oldest working 15-inch gauge locomotive in the world.

The train journey travels through beautiful countryside from Ravenglass, calling at Muncaster Mill, Irton Road, The Green, and Beckfoot before finally reaching reaching Dalegarth station, near Boot in Eskdale.

The organisers stated: "From Dalegarth you can walk to Eskdale Mill,Stanley Ghyll Force and St Catherine’s Church Pick to ride behind either our 'Big Trains' or our 'Laal Trains' and enjoy 3 relaxing return trips along the line in the same seat as we bring the engines to you!

"A rare treat to make this Gala an alternative day out. You also have the opportunity to get a weekend ticket so that you can travel on both types of train! Throughout the weekend we will also have some visitors onsite including Talisman and a model railway in the museum."

"If you ride on one of our 'Big Trains', throughout the day you will travel behind River Mite, River Irt, River Esk and Whillan Beck. Meanwhile if you chose to ride on a 'Laal Train' your trips will be behind Katie and Perkins."
