It's been a sensational start to the summer so far although the Sun really needs reminding to visit us more.

This week, we are looking for the “best beer gardens” in the area, and, as always, our readers answered the call.

Here, in no particular order are some of many recommendations for the best beer garden across north and west Cumbria.

1 CASTLE KNIGHTS, LOW CORKICKLE, WHITEHAVEN

With large space outside with parasols and benches, one reader, said: “Excellent pub with great secluded beer garden, and to top it off the food is fantastic. Compliments always to the chef, staff and owners.”

Another said: “This place is so underrated. Chef makes the most delicious food. Give this place a try.”

John McAvoy said: "It's great to enjoy the sun in the back gardens."

2 SUN INN, MAIN STREET, HENSINGHAM

The pub comes highly recommended by reader Paul Simpson who said: "Doesn't get much better than Sun Inn

Craig Bennet said: "Best pub in Whitehaven. Brilliant people and great atmosphere."

The local favourite is also dog and family friendly.

Paul Evitts, said: "Really great for sunny days with family or friends. Always need a good pint after a walk around the shops."

Beverley Turner said: "Been going here for years! Sun Inn is the best."

3 THE SHIPWRIGHTS, BRANSTY ROW, WHITEHAVEN

Shipwrights Arms is a traditional local pub located in the town centre.

They have a pool table, darts area, and flat screens for all the football and other sporting events happening this summer.

One reader, said: “Good for football and brilliant beer garden.”

Glyn Jones praised the pub saying: "Proper pub. Just beer and a good craic. Good choice of ales at reasonable prices.

Another said: “Great atmosphere, friendly staff.”

4 THE MANOR, MAIN STREET, ST BEES

Within a minutes' walk from St Bees train station, this relaxed pub with rooms is also close to the start of Wainright’s Coast to Coast path. They have 7 laid-back rooms including en suite bathrooms, free Wi-Fi and flat-screen TVs.

Reader Tom Shipton, said: “We called here for lunch and were very impressed. We were able to take the dogs in.”

Another reader, Margaret Berry said: "Lovely how close to the coast you can get. Definitely a favourite for me and my husband too."

Victoria Jones, said: "The food was delicious and homely, exactly what we needed!"

5 THE GLOBE INN, MAIN STREET, HENSINGHAM

The beer garden at the back attracts many customers. Julie Wilson, said: "This is our new go to place, the staff are so friendly, good ales and great food."
