A DISPLAY and special service marked the anniversary of the tragic 2010 shootings.

The Parish Church of St Mary and St Michael, at Egremont, last week marked the eleventh anniversary of the Derrick Bird shootings, which took place on June 2, 2010.

A Flowers of Mindfulness display was created, and services of healing for those affected by the events were also held, providing the opportunity for quiet reflection and prayer.

Money for the flowers was raised from many sources and donations, but particularly from the auction of racing pigeons, with one bird donated from the Queen’s Loft in Sandringham.

The church was then decorated by a dedicated group, who created a "calm and beautiful" atmosphere for the community to reflect in.

The Rector, Revd Melanie Appleby and Revd Duncan Jackson thanked all those who helped with the preparation of the display and services, particularly the high level of sanitation required to ensure that all visitors remained safe.
