The A66 has now reopened after being closed in both directions this afternoon following a serious crash.
The A66 in Cumbria was closed in both directions between Rheged and Troutbeck due to a serious road traffic collision.
A Highways England spokesperson said: "Cumbria Police lead the response to an ongoing incident and have closed the carriageway to allow them to work at scene."
Motorists are being advised to expect delays on the approach to the closure and allow extra time for their journeys.
The A591 into Keswick is heavily congested as a result with queues heading in on Crosthwaite Road.
Stagecoach said that all of its X5 Keswick to Penrith services would terminate at Keswick as a result until the accident is cleared.
