A YOUNG Parton man is on track to fulfilling his dreams of becoming a fully fledged Travel Advisor.

Sixteen-year-old George Golding has joined the team at Hays Travel as the new modern apprentice.

Visiting top destinations such as the United States, Turkey, Spain, Cyprus, Prague and Greece, George has been infatuated with travel since a young age, going abroad on family holidays.

He said: “I’ve been really looking forward to joining the team at Whitehaven as I’ve been interested in travel for as long as I can remember.

“I love exploring different places and their cultures, and I’m so happy that I’ll be able to learn more with the best team about what the world has to offer, all while making other people’s travel dreams come true.”

George’s favourite holiday destination he has been to so far has been New York, although the young apprentice is keen to jet off to visit Australia and South Africa whenever he is able.

He said: “I’ve always wanted to go on a safari in Africa – that would be my dream destination.”

Hays Travel announced George’s arrival to the team on Monday and he started work yesterday.

The team were excited to see he was coming on board to start a successful career in travel.

When George received word that he had got the apprenticeship with Hays Travel he was shocked to see his future taking shape so soon.

“I felt lucky especially during these times with Covid and through the pandemic,” he said. “I know it can be a struggle to find what you want. It’s definitely what I want to be doing right now.”

George’s role as the modern apprentice will mean he will work closely with the other travel agents to help clients find an ideal location for a holiday or getaway and sorting out all necessary admin, amending documents and changing travel plans if it ever comes to it.

George was attracted to Hays Travel because of their family team spirit: “Hays Travel are a very family oriented company and that’s what attracted me to apply for the apprenticeship. The team in Whitehaven have been amazing and I thank them so much for the opportunity.”

Hays Travel has branches all over the UK and it was recorded earlier this month they were at their busiest since the pandemic began, with customers looking to book a quick holiday with the easing of lockdown restrictions.

George is optimistic for his future with the firm and eager to start his training to progress through the world of travel.
