A West Cumbria cricket club has been handed a massive financial boost as it looks to emerge from the pandemic in fine form.

Copeland Community Fund's Grants Panel have awarded the Cleator Moor Cricket Club £22,500 from the Local Community Fund to install new training net facilities.

Construction of a new two lane artificial turf facility which meets ECB standards, with coaching lines and a full safety cage will soon be underway.

Steve Wishart, on behalf of Cleator Cricket Club stated his gratitude: "Cleator Cricket Club would like to thank Copeland Community Fund for their generous grant funding to allow us to purchase and install new practice facilities at the club.

"The Cricket Club has been at the heart of the community for almost 150 years, and this will help us in our aim to grow our junior and senior section and to provide cricket opportunities for all.

He added: "Hopefully this will help us be around for at least the next 150 years!"
