AMBITIOUS plans have been unveiled for an all-new music and arts festival in Cumbria to be held this summer.

Named 42 Degrees after the angle at which sunlight striking raindrops produces a rainbow, the "intimate" music and arts festival would be held at Huttin-in-the-Forest near Penrith.

Founder Jess Prince is hoping to hold the inaugural festival from July 16 - 18 this year - but in order for it to go ahead, it needs to reach a target of £30,000 via a Kickstarter campaign.

Organisers already have a number of artists lined up to perform, inlcuding London-based producer Ash Walker, singer Yemi Bolatiwa and jazz group Ebi Soda.

There will also be space for local talent, including Lancaster-born Imogen Rae and Kendal native Lekhani Chirwa, who will be performing her sell-out show "Can I touch your hair."

In addition, the festival will feature a variety of "workshops, jamming sessions, and arts and crafts stations" including dance, photography, and tie dye workshops.

However, nothing will go ahead unless the team reach their £30,000 tartget.

A spokeswoman for the festival said: "To reach our target of £30k, we’ve created a range of packages for you to buy from Bronze to Platinum, each package having a re-usable festival cup and additional rewards.

"Unless we hit our £30k target, the Festival CANNOT run. The money you pledge will only be deducted from your account if the target is reached by the 30th June 2021 - the end of our project. Anything in excess of the target will enable us to expand the experiences on offer.

"We’ve been finding ways to make our festival as sustainable as possible. Our festival decorations are upcycled; our stash is carbon neutral; there are vouchers to incentivise car share and every ticket comes with a reusable festival cup to cut down on plastic waste.

"We’re super excited to share this weekend with you but as a grass roots, not-for-profit event we really need your help to make Eden's 42 Degrees Festival a reality.

"We have all worked so hard to get this project ready to go and now we need you! Please help make this dream become a reality. Make history in attending what we hope will be the first of many 42 Degrees Festivals."

So far, more than £5,300 has been pledged. To support the festival, visit its Kickstarter page.
