A Cockermouth group will be helping tackle the problem of invasive Himalayan balsam and would like to hear from people who can help.

In the past, the town's Civic Trust has worked alongside the West Cumbria Rivers Trust to manage the issue.

A trust spokesman said: "West Cumbria Rivers Trust's Himalayan balsam removal project has not been renewed.

"As a consequence, it is likely that there will be reduced or no support to the work in Cockermouth this year as the Rivers Trust’s resources are concentrated upstream.

"It remains important that the river banks in Cockermouth are protected from erosion by the regular removal of the balsam so we intend to organise a couple of sessions this year in key areas of the Derwent and Cocker."

Anyone who would like to help should email their details to chaircockermouthct@gmail.com.
