A PLAN to refurbish an historic Whitehaven harbourside pub has gained council approval.
In a vision outlined to Copeland Borough Council, The Waterfront was seeking the green light for various new features and alterations.
The plans include the insertion of doors to the rear, which did require council approval, and also refer to wider plans for refurbishment inside the venue, which did not require approval.
The property is a Grade II listed building and is situated in the Whitehaven Conservation Area.
In planning documents, the applicant stated: “The public house is situated on the harbour front in an important location for tourism and local use. The proposed alterations are minor, but will allow the outside space to be utilised.
“This feature is important for businesses during the Covid-19 pandemic, in order to allow customers to sit outside according with lockdown measures. It will also enhance facilities for customers beyond the pandemic, which will help to make the business viable in the long term.”
The owners confirmed that the reopening of the refurbished venue will take place on May 19.
