A COMMUNITY group is raising funds for a West Cumbrian marathon man’s gruelling charity effort.

Inspired to Move was set up after being inspired by Gary McKee’s fundraising marathons.

A Facebook page by the same name became a place to help encourage people of all ages and abilities to get active and improve their physical health and mental wellbeing.

Now, the group has joined up with Gary's former rugby club, Wath Brow Hornets in Cleator, to organise 'Support-A-Thons'.

They will be held on Bank Holiday Monday, which is already fully booked, and Wednesday, May 5, at 6.30pm. Fundraisers will support Gary in his endurance test, 110 marathons in 110 days. Proceeds from both efforts will benefit Macmillan Cancer Support and Hospice at Home West Cumbria.

Designed by the Inspired to Move team, the Support-A-Thon involves the McKee 110, 26.2 exercises for 110 seconds, the Alfie Beau Half Marathon, 13.1 exercises for 110 seconds and the Minnie, a fun run for everyone – three exercises for 110 seconds each.

Nina Albertelli, personal trainer and manager of Wath Brow Hornets Fitness Suite said: “Gary is a massive inspiration for all the funds and awareness he raises from his marathon challenges. However, not everyone can run a marathon, so with Inspire to Move we aim to encourage people to try and do whatever they can to get active.

“Regardless of anyone’s age or ability, whether people are dancing around their living room or running a marathon, we want our group members to share what they are doing to inspire others to move.

“And now we’re urging people to join in our ‘Support-A-Thon’ exercise event and at the same time help raise vital funds for Gary McKee’s latest challenge.”
