PROPOSALS to chop down a tree with a protection order in Whitehaven have been lodged.
Copeland Borough Council has recently received an application for the removal of a sycamore, by KP Arborists, at Johnson House, Hillcrest Avenue.
According to information provided in the application form: “The sycamore is to be dismantled because the tree has died and is shedding its bark and branches.
“It has ‘Honey Fungus Rhizomes’ at its base and a crack on its stem.
“The tree is close to the boundary of the property and three other properties, posing a risk to the public and property.”
The application was validated on March 31.
The ownership of the tree is listed as the Abbeyfield Whitehaven Society which runs the retirement community at Johnson House.
The location is at the north of the site near to Woodlands Avenue.
