With some coronavirus restrictions lifted this week as part of the Government’s road map for Britain’s next steps in combating Covid-19, many readers will be planning their trip to sip an ice-cool beer in one of our region’s best beer gardens.

This week, we asked you for your best beer garden and, as always, you answered the call.

Here, in no particular order are some of the recommendations for the best beer gardens in and around Whitehaven.

1 CASTLE KNIGHTS, LOW CORKICKLE, WHITEHAVEN

Caroline Lamb attended their reopening and was impressed saying: “Amazing service and food.

"First day after lockdown restrictions were eased and it was faultless.

"Well done to all.”

One Google reviewer said: “Excellent pub with great secluded beer garden, and to top it off the food is fantastic. Compliments to the chef, staff and owners.”

Another said: “This place is so underrated.

"Chef makes the most delicious food. Give this place a try.”

2 SUN INN, MAIN STREET, HENSINGHAM

The pub comes highly recommended by reader Paul Simpson.

According to the Whatpub.com website it is dog and family-friendly.

Reviewer Denny Peat stated his love for the venue and its landlords: “Best pub in North of England with a top landlord.”

3 CASTLE BAR, MARKET PLACE, COCKERMOUTH

Located in Market Place in Cockermouth, the pub has a terraced beer garden.

Judith Scott said: “It is set out over three levels.

“Great friendly staff, great range of drinks, great food.

“Try it for yourself if you get the chance.”

4 THE SHIPWRIGHTS, BRANSTY ROW, WHITEHAVEN

One Google reviewer said: “Good for football and beer garden.”

Another said: “Great atmosphere, friendly staff.”

Upon reopening this week they stated online: “I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who turned up today, even though the start of the day didn’t go so well, but we got there in the end.

"From the bottom of my heart I want to say I appreciated all your patience today with the opening time and we all had a fantastic afternoon.”

5 BRANSTY ARCH PUB, BRANSTY ROW, WHITEHAVEN

One Google reviewer said: "Really nice place for something to eat.

“Staff really friendly and helpful, great location very clean and tidy. Great value for money.”

6 THE GLOBE INN, MAIN STREET, HENSINGHAM

One Tripadvisor reviewer said: “Good attractions are a beer garden at the back, a covered smoking area, a quiz every two weeks and occasional entertainment.

“I’d recommend The Globe Inn to anyone who wants a good meal, a friendly conversation and wants to watch sport.”
