CUMBRIA County Council have urged residents to stick to coronavirus restrictions while paying tribute to the Duke of Edinburgh.

The Queen's consort, Prince Philip, died on Friday at the age of 99. He had been married to the Queen for 73 years.

Tributes have poured in for the Duke since his death - but Cumbria County Council have now asked residents not to gather due to the coronavirus crisis.

A spokesman for the council said: "We understand that many people would like to express their grief on the death of His Royal Highness.

"In order to comply with COVID-19 restrictions, The Royal Family are respectfully asking the public to not lay flowers. Instead, the public are encouraged to leave their condolence online."

Tributes can be left at www.royal.uk/condolence.
