Plans for a community allotment in Cleator Moor have moved a step further towards being realised.

Copeland Borough Council, has agreed to a short term tenancy to create a community allotment, for the growing of plants and vegetables at the corner of William Morris Avenue, Cleator Moor.

The allotments will be opened up to the wider community in a drive to bring members of the area together, as well as encourage sustainability and healthy living.

The vision will be delivered by Works For You who already are involved in various schemes in the area such as maintaining gardens for elderly and disabled people.

Local Councillor Hugh Branney previously spoke of his hope that the scheme would serve to further a number of objectives for the area.

"It's a great chance for people to both watch and engage and have a place to cherish.

"It meets all of our green agendas alongside our push to help to reduce obesity and fast food.

He continued: "I love the idea of people being able to go across the road to Works For You to cook and maybe share a meal."
