Coronavirus in Cumbria is continuing to steadily decline over a seven-day period.

New figures released by Public Health England at 4pm yesterday show that Allerdale has the highest number of cases per 100,000 people.

The borough recorded 143.2 cases per 100,000 people for the past seven days.

This was followed by Barrow recording 119.3 cases per 100,000 people and Copeland with 102.7 cases per 100,000 people.

After this, all other areas in Cumbria are below 100 cases per 100,000 people.

Carlisle stands at 78.2 cases per 100,000 people, Eden recorded 62 cases per 100,000 people and South Lakeland 43.8 cases per 100,000 people.

Seven-day rates are expressed per 100,000 population and are calculated by dividing the seven day count by the area population and multiplying by 100,000.

For the total of people with at least one positive Covid-19 test result, either lab-reported or lateral flow device, since the start of the pandemic, Carlisle has recorded the highest number with 8,088.

After Carlisle, Allerdale has recorded the most cases with 4,838, then South Lakeland with 4,377 and Barrow with 4,114.

Copeland and Eden have recorded the lowest number of positive cases with 3,012 and 2,936 cases respectively.

For the week ending February 23, the number of new patients admitted with Covid-19 positive status decreased from the previous week in North Cumbria Integrated Care (NCIC) and University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMB) by -19 per cent and -31 per cent. respectively.
