It goes without saying that 2020 was a turbulent year for many of us.
With lockdown rules in place, the people of Copeland were forced to stay indoors for most of the year.
However, that didn’t stop the criminals from coming out to play as 5,785 crimes were reported in Copeland last year.
The data from the Cumbria constabulary, via data.police.uk, shows that violent and sexual offences were the most reported crime by far with 2,127.
This was followed by anti-social behaviour with 1,305 crimes reported in the year.
Where crimes were committed
79 anti-social behaviour crimes were reported on or near a parking area.
For public order crimes 115 were reported on or near Copeland Avenue.
On or near a supermarket recorded 61 violent or sexual crimes last year.
Prosecutions
418 suspected were unable to be prosecuted for public order crimes.
This was compared with 1,384 suspected unable to be prosecuted for violent and sexual crimes.
