A section of the A66 has been closed today (February 23) due to lorries being blown over by high winds.
Crews from Appleby and Penrith Fire Stations are currently attending multiple incidents of overturned vehicles along the A66, and are warning road users to be wary when driving in such high wind speeds.
One lane of the A66 Eastbound, between Stainmore Cafe and Bowes, is currently closed due to two overturned HGVs.
Update:
The A66 is currently at a standstill, as strong winds continue to put HGVs and other vulnerable road users at risk.
Highways England has closed the road to high-sided and vulnerable vehicles in both directions, between the M6 at Penrith, and A1M near Scotch Corner, due to the strong winds.
Restrictions apply to all vehicles 6ft 9 inches and higher, including caravans, motorcyclists and other vulnerable road users.
