Horrible Histories will be coming to Carlisle on Monday 5 April.

The Horrible Histories Live on Stage production is touring again due to popular demand and it will be coming to Carlisle Racecourse this Easter.

The Covid-safe drive-in theatre experience will allow people to watch Horrible Histories Barmy Britain from the comfort of their cars.

"It's unlike anything I've experienced before," said Birmingham Stage Company (BSC) director and actor, Neal Foster.

"The first time I waked on stage and found out I was performing in front of 300 cars, I burst out laughing because its such a peculiar thing. It's the sort of thing I imagine might happen on a distant planet.

"It worked extremely well against all expectations. We also discovered, to our delight, that the car horn was clearly invented to clap at the end of a show, to boo the bad guy, or laugh at a joke. It's so clear that the public love using their car horns when they want to join in with the show."

Mr Foster, who plays Guy Fawkes, Anne Boleyn and Queen Victoria among other characters in Horrible Histories Barmy Britain, said he is looking forward to returning to Carlisle.

He said: "We're really looking forward to coming to Carlisle again. It's not a city I know well, but now we've started taking our shows there more, its becoming one of our favourite places to go. We're really glad that its part of this drive-in tour"

Horrible Histories Live on Stage is based on the bestselling books by author, Terry Deary.

It first launched in 2005 and since then, the BSC has produced eighteen different Horrible History shows.

This will be Horrible Histories Live on Stage's third outing as a drive-in theatre tour, and Mr Foster added that they are all "bursting to get out there and perform again."

Horrible Histories Barmy Britain features an array of characters from Britain's past, including Queen Boudicca, King Henry VIII, Guy Fawkes, Dick Turpin, Queen Victoria and many more.
