MP for Copeland Trudy Harrison is supporting students in the area to experience their ‘Dream Placement’.

As part of Dream Placement 2021 - a Cumbrian based scheme which gives young people exciting development opportunities - Trudy welcomed St Benedict’s sixth-form student, Hannah Stephen, for a week long placement.

Hannah worked virtually with the Copeland MP and her team in both the constituency and parliamentary offices, providing an insight into the day-to-day workings of a Member of Parliament’s office.

She got involved in developing community projects, understanding parliamentary businesses in the House of Commons, as well as learning more about office workflows.

Hannah, said: “I am really excited to have been given the opportunity to work with Trudy and her team.

"I am looking forward to finding out more about what is involved in being an MP and developing a better understanding of local issues.”

Trudy also virtually joined apprentices at NNL to learn more about their experiences in the workplace and to discuss the future of nuclear energy and the environment.

The scheme is designed to create a future workforce for the county’s top companies and equip students with the skills, experience, and contacts to carry them through further education, university, their first job and beyond.

Trudy said: “Supporting young people by giving them the opportunity to broaden their life skills whilst gaining hands-on experience will always be a priority.

“Work based learning and placements offer incredibly important life lessons and Dream Placement is a unique opportunity for Copeland’s young people to take part in a structured and focused programme helping them to build confidence whilst aiding them in their journey to a fulfilling career.

“A huge thank you to the Centre of Leadership for providing this fantastic opportunity.”

The Office of Trudy Harrison MP joins 19 other businesses and organisations across Copeland taking part in this year’s scheme, which is now in its eighth year.
