A SCHOOL devoted to keeping its pupils smiling all year round is set to undergo a major change from next month – and the whole group can’t wait.

After being judged to have “serious weaknesses” by OFSTED in May 2019, Lamplugh CE Primary School is preparing to take the leap, as it joins the Good Shepherd Trust next month.

On February 1, the “warm, caring and happy place to learn” – as described by OFSTED inspectors – will officially become an academy, along with Dean CE Primary School and Lorton Primary School.

And the sense of excitement is palpable, with everyone ready for the next step in the school’s lifeline.

Acting headteacher, Katie Robinson, said:“Children, families, staff and governors are all delighted to be joining the Trust, and are excited about the school’s future.

“The school has some exciting building work planned, including a brand new outdoor area for younger children and the development of a new under-croft classroom.”

And with the new school status comes the new name of Kirkland CE Academy, reflecting the school’s history and location.

Cleo Cunningham, executive headteacher, said: “I feel privileged to be joining the leadership team of this lovely school.

“Small, rural schools play such a huge part in the lives of their pupils, families and the whole community.

“The Good Shepherd Trust is committed to ensuring that Kirkland CE Academy is welcomed into the Trust family, and is given every chance to flourish and to provide an excellent education for its pupils for many years to come.”

The Good Shepherd Trust will welcome the new academy with a special virtual event on February1, with the school holding a celebratory open day for the community when Covid guidance allows.

Claire Render, CEO of the Good Shepherd Trust, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Kirkland CE Academy into our Trust, and we look forward to working with the staff, the governing body, parents and children as the school thrives and grows, striving to deliver the best possible outcomes for its pupils.”

The school offers nursery places for children aged two years and up. For more information, call the office on 01946 861386.
