Cumbria Constabulary has thanked the public for playing a part in the fight against Covid-19, by staying home.

A spokesperson for Cumbria Police said: "A big thank you from all of our officers to the vast majority of people who are staying home as much as possible and respecting the Government regulations."

They said that those following the rules are helping to keep the pandemic under control.

"Not only are you reducing the spread of the virus, protecting the NHS and saving lives but also giving our officers the time to carry out essential work to help people, keep people safe and tackle crime."

Chief Constable Michelle Skeer was amongst the Cumbrian leaders to sign an open letter last week, imploring the public to "stay local" and abide by national lockdown rules.

The letter was signed by 24 senior Cumbrians including MPs and chief executives.
