A WEST Cumbrian band has released a new song with a positive message for us all, despite the tough times.

Broken English, a Maryport-based band, has just finished its latest song that is encouraging people to remain positive and to have some self-belief.

The song, Believe, has been shared on the band’s social media accounts alongside a creative video.

Michael Grace, a member of the band, said: “It’s just because everyone has got this claustrophobic feel – another lockdown.

“It’s just trying to say, there is something at the end of the rainbow.

“Not everything is down and gloomy, although it does seem that way at this moment in time.”

The video, which was filmed pre-lockdown, shows scenes in Maryport – as well as scenes from previous gigs with a filter over it.

The five-member band wrote the song collaboratively by suggesting changes over WhatsApp and other ways too.

“It’s the same with any of our songs. We put it up on WhatsApp or something and have people criticise it or praise it, whichever way,” said Michael.

Broken English, like many other bands, has been impacted by the national lockdown and Covid restrictions which have been in place since last year.

They haven’t been able to perform at their usual gigs, such as weddings and birthday parties which have been cancelled.

He said: “It’s a very frustrating process because we are usually playing at weddings and people are having to cancel their own weddings when they have got us booked.

“We have only seen each other twice since February/March last year.

“Everyone is in the same boat with their families. It’s a bit frustrating and surreal.”
