A CUMBRIAN crafter has been crowned the winner of Channel 4’s Kirstie Allsopp’s Handmade Christmas TV competition.

Crafter and sewist, Kym Armstrong, 30, from Ravenglass, was announced as the winner on tonight’s show after applying to be on the program back in September at the suggestion of her friend.

Kym runs her own creative crafts and sewing business, MAKE! The Lakes.

At the initial application stage, she was required to design the stocking she would be presenting for Kirstie on the show.

Celebrity judge Stuart Hillard, known for the BBC’s The Great British Sewing Bee, would be the one to decide who the winner of the competition would be.

Kym had only four hours to make her design, which had required weeks of planning and rehearsal to perfect before the final.

After much deliberation, Kym was named as the winner of the 2020 Christmas competition.

Kym said: “Even to get on the show in the first place was a huge achievement and something that all crafters dream about. I still can’t believe it.

“I’d like to thank Stuart for choosing my design stocking. Also, a big thank you to all my friends and family for all their support they gave me. Especially to my partner Dan for putting up with everything, and all the mess in the house for the preparations.

“Also, to my dad who drove me down to Devon for the show.

“It was a real joy to meet Kristie as well. She’s a total professional and amazing person to meet.”
