A LISTED building in Whitehaven has an application with Copeland Council for a change of use from commercial property to a four-bedroom house.

The plan is to demolish the internal walls of 6 Church Street to create an open-plan living accommodation at ground floor, divide the first-floor room, form openings to provide a bedroom/bathroom ensuite, with provision to the upper floors.

Externally they want to replace the doors, add one new sash window and carry out alterations to the stairs.

The historic street dates from 1687, when Sir John Lowther decided to replace the existing chapel with a church.

In 1985 use of an office was granted and in 2003 approval was given to convert the building into three flats, but this work was not done so the property is still classed as commercial/community use.
