A 35-YEAR-OLD man who was arrested for rape has been released on on bail say police.

Cumbria Constabulary said the resident of the Cleator Moor area was let out today "while enquiries continue".

He was taken into custody yesterday when police were investigating the reported rape of a girl, in her late teens, at Halloween.

The incident took place in Moor Row, on a path near Dalzell Street - officers received the report on November 13.

The girl is currently being supported by officers.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen anything suspicious at the time – at about 3.30pm to 5.30pm on Saturday, October 31.

Detective chief inspector Matt Scott had previously said: “Incidents such as this are very rare but the community can take reassurance that we have a team of detectives continuing to investigate the report.

“A man has been arrested and currently remains in police custody.

“This investigation continues to be in its early stages, and we continue our appeal for any information that could help us with our investigation.

"Anything no matter how small could help and I would encourage anyone with any information to please contact us as it may assist our investigation.”
