IS THERE anything better than sinking your teeth into a freshly made doughnut.

Whether you regard the sugary sensations as a cheeky lunchtime treat or you're an ardent fan - there's plenty to choose from in the county.

North and west Cumbria has lots of places where customers can get the lip smacking dainties, in many different varieties.

This week we asked people to recommend their favourite places for a doughnut.

1 BRUCE & LUKES WITH BRANCHES IN KESWICK AND CARLISLE

2 MORRISONS SUPERMARKET, FLATT WALKS, WHITEHAVEN

A surprising choice from readers Rebecca Bell and John Sessford who plumped for what's on offer at the supermarket chain.

John points out that a pack of five filled doughnuts costs only 50p.

3 GREGGS, KING STREET, WHITEHAVEN

The bakery chain has been given the thumbs-up by Heather Wilson, Sharon Sharkey and Joleigh Hodgson.

Heather said: "Greggs custard fill donuts guilty not so secret now."

4 THE FAT COW DOUGHNUT SHOP, MARKET HALL CARLISLE

A little bit further afield but The Fat Cow is developing quite a fan base among doughnut lovers.
