Flooding caused a number of problems for motorists in west Cumbria.

Eye witnesses in the Workington, Parton and Harrington areas reported surface water on Saturday on Central Way, Workington; Beckstone Bridge, Harrington; Church Road, Harrington; Castle Gardens, Workington; Old road from Distington to Howgate and on the A595 at Parton.

Heavy rain battered the county for much of Saturday before turning to light showers by early afternoon.

Nicola Stephenson, of Distington, saw the flooding on the way to shopping.

"The areas affected were Beckstone Bridge, where the water was coming up through the drain cover near St Mary's Church on the hill," she explained.

"This was passable when we travelled through but was later closed by emergency services. The B5306 at Common End near the vintage rally site was flooded but was safe to drive through via the middle of the road.

"The A66 towards Oakhurst Garage roundabout was flooded and people were having to move into the middle of the road to pass safely."
