Pupils had a chance to experience the thrill of the bake off tent this week when Moor Row Community Primary School took a food-themed approach.

Harriett Chappell, from Phunky Foods in Copeland, delivered assemblies and showed that healthy eating can be fun.

All week they have learned about keeping fit and healthy, doing PE sessions and mindfulness activities as well as cookery. Year 5 and 6 children even had their own bake off tent.

Each class had its own theme, from the ancient Greeks to Harry Potter, and pupils had the opportunity to cook and sample new foods.

Senior teaching assistant Mrs Bury, who organised the week, said: “Last year our pupils won the category of team work in the ‘Bright Stars’ competition and the children voted to spend their winnings on an oven and baking equipment. This gave us the opportunity to put it all to good use.”

Mrs McQuirk, senior leader at the school, added: “Now, more than ever, physical and mental health are really important and this week has been a great way to highlight this in a really positive way and get the children excited about their learning.”
