Yesterday saw the largest single-day increase in the number of positive Covid-19 cases in Carlisle since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic.

According to the official data on positive Covid-19 cases published by the Government, there were 61 new Covid-19 cases recorded in the Carlisle district yesterday.

Previously, the largest single-day increase in the number of positive Covid-19 cases identified in Carlisle was 45, on April 29.

Yesterday's 61 new cases brought the sum total of positive coronavirus numbers in the Carlisle local authority area to 1,296.

The largest single-day increase in positive Covid cases was also recorded yesterday in Copeland, though the jump was far less dramatic.

A total of 18 new cases were identified in Copeland yesterday, only one more than the previous biggest single-day increase of 17.

The positive Covid-19 cases recorded yesterday in Allerdale also represented the largest single-day increase since the beginning of the pandemic - 21 new cases, higher than the previous greatest single-day spike of 18, seen on September 30 and October 7.

The largest single-day increase in positive Covid-19 cases in Eden was seen on Monday - 28 new cases, with 25 new cases recorded yesterday.
