PROPOSALS to renovate an historic Grade II listed pub have been lodged.

Copeland Borough Council have recevied plans for the "proposed internal alterations and cosmetic refurbishment" of The Waterfront pub, West Strand, Whitehaven, by pub chain Admiral Taverns.

According to the Heritage Impact statement: "The Waterfront is a late 18th Century, early 19th Century Georgian Inn which has been adapted for re-use and currently operates as a Public house,Bar.

"The building is a statutorily Grade II listed building, designated heritage asset, and is situated within a conservation area.

"The pub's primary significance lies within its architectural, illustrative and associative values.

"The building has been heavily altered internally and extended externally although the principal and side elevation remains broadly original.

"The proposals comprise internal alteration and refurbishment works and a new external doorway to the rear.

"Proposals comprise internal alteration and refurbishment with new rear external doorway.

The report concludes: "That proposals present no significant risk in terms of unnecessarily compromising the significance of the heritage asset."
