THERE are few things better than tucking into a juicy steak with freshly cooked chips or fries.

Whether it’s an occasional treat, or you’re a committed carnivore - there are plenty of places in west Cumbria to enjoy a meaty mouthful.

This week we asked readers of the Whitehaven News to give us their recommendations including pubs, butchers restaurants and steakhouses in the area.

So whatever way you like your steak, well-done medium-rare or even blue, here are some recommendations, in no particular order, of the best places.

1 CASTLE KNIGHTS BAR & GRILL, WHITEHAVEN

Liz McDowell has recommended the eatery because of the quality of the food and service.

She said: “Castle Knights Bar & Grill beautiful food, and very polite friendly waitresses.”

The venue has a number of rave reviews on Tripadvisor.

One customer said: “Fantastic food, lovely friendly staff, all home cooked, beer garden very spacious and south facing. Will definitely be back.”

Another said: “We went for a meal with family and the food was excellent.

“Everything was homemade and presented well.

“I had a rump steak which was done exactly how I’d asked for it to be done.”

2 THE OLD GINN HOUSE INN, MOOR ROAD, GREAT CLIFTON

3 MARSHALL’S BUTCHERS, CORPORATION ROAD, WORKINGTON
