Two pubs in West Cumbria have been fined for flouting the coronavirus curfew.

Cumbria Constabulary also said it issued tickets to 13 members of a stag party who travelled to the area from outside the county to celebrate at the weekend.

On Friday punters were caught drinking at The Central, on Main Street, Egremont, and The Bush Inn, on Main Street, Cockermouth, run by brewer Marston’s, after the 10pm deadline.

The curfew was imposed by the Government on September 24 in a bid to stop the spread of the virus.

Assistant chief constable Andrew Slattery said: “I am very grateful for the way the majority of licensees have complied with the regulations in place to protect us all.

“But it is clear a small number of breaches have taken place – and we would urge everyone, both individuals and business owners and staff, to do their bit to stop the spread of the virus by sticking to the regulations.

“These fines show Cumbria Constabulary will take action against breaches of coronavirus restrictions and our officers will be out in our communities monitoring for any further breaches.

“We ask everyone to continue to act responsibly and take personal responsibility for protecting themselves, their families and communities – and if you are a business owner, your customers.”

Barrow Raiders Rugby Football Club has also been fined when it was caught holding a function in a marquee and allowing people, from different groups, to mingle and dance without maintaining social distancing.

The News & Star has tried to contact The Central and The Bush Inn for a statement but were unable to get one before the publication deadline.
