DRINKERS in west Cumbria are being urged to give up booze for a month to raise money for a local cause.

Rosehill Youth Theatre, based on Lowther Street in Whitehaven, is encouraging people to give up alcohol in October.

The group is asking people to raise money for them during the month, which will help it to continue to provide performing arts sessions to local people.

Despite being locked down by coronavirus, it has been ineligible for Government help as it is not considered a frontline charity.

The theatre did celebrate receiving £1,000 in June from the Charlie and Kathleen Dunnery Children’s Fund, but more is needed.

The group launched a campaign in May to save The Solway Hall, which is used by the Rosehill Youth Theatre, as well as by up to 100 other charities, including other theatre groups, events for people with disabilities.
