POLICE are appealing for information after a number of paintings were stolen from a house in Whitehaven.

The unoccupied property, in Honister Road, was burgled sometime between August 26 and yesterday.

It is believed entry was gained at the front of the property.

As well as discovering paintings had been taken, the owner also returned to find paint daubed across the walls and carpets.

Officers are urging anyone with information to contact PC 1624 Butterfield at Whitehaven Police Station on 101, quoting incident 172 of September 19.
