With the windy, winter nights making a comeback, one council has issued advice on how to ensure kerbside recycling is carried out smoothly.
Copeland Borough Council has shared tips on how to keep your bins, boxes and bags from being ruined or lost due to bad weather, as well as keep waste from escaping.
The first piece of advice is to consider whether your recycling needs to be collected, or if it could wait until a less windy week.
Other tips include putting containers in sheltered locations, and using soft, elasticated lids to be tied securely to the rim of the box or bin.
The council has also suggested crushing recycling, allowing residents to fit more into the container, making it heavier and less likely to be blown over.
