Residents in Copeland are being urged not to discard used PPE on the ground while out and about.

Copeland Council had pleaded with residents to dispose of used face masks and other protective equipment items properly, describing PPE litter as a "growing problem" in the borough.

"Gloves and masks can't be recycled and pose a threat to wildlife, as well as spoiling our beautiful Copeland landscapes and towns," a spokesman for the council said.

"Make sure you dispose of your PPE properly."

Government advice is that anyone with a case of Covid-19, or a suspected case, should place all their waste in a sealed back, then that bag in another sealed bag, and left for at least 72 hours before being put out for collection.
