A WEST Cumbrian youth club has restarted its activity sessions.

The Whitehaven Harbour Youth Project, based on Swingpump Lane in the town, reopened its activities, including archery, climbing, quiz nights and a number of youth clubs, on Monday.

A number of measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of all in attendance, in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Prior booking before attendance is now essential. A spokesman for the Whitehaven Harbour Youth Project explained that this is to allow for smaller groups and bubbles.

"On entry, each young person will have a temperature check and will only be allowed in if it is below 37.8C," the spokesman added.

"Young people will need to sign in for each session they attend to ensure we know who we have in case of an emergency and we will be taking information for track and trace to ensure we are able to inform all young people of any cases that may occur.

"All staff members will be wearing a face covering throughout the sessions. Young people aged 11 and over will need to wear a face covering in line with government guidance. Those under 11 are encouraged.

"To ensure everyone's safety we can only allow a maximum of 12 young people in each session to be able to socially distance safely."

The spokesman added that a strict cleaning regime is also in place.

"Staff will be cleaning frequently touched items and places throughout the sessions such as pool cues and we will do a deep clean before and after each session to ensure it is clean and safe environment for the next group.

"We are very excited to be finally be able to allow young people into our space and provide them with a fun and safe place to be.
