Youngsters have kicked off the new school term with a fizz, pop, whizz and bang by taking part in the hugely popular Roald Dahl Day.

Held on September 13 this year, the international day of celebrating all-things-Dahl is enjoyed by pupils across the world, with many getting involved through fancy dress, story-telling and much more.

And the excited bunch at Lamplugh School were no exception, spending the day following in the footsteps of their favourite book's main character, George's Marvellous Medicine.

Together, youngsters of Early Years took a shine to becoming chemists, creating one very marvellous medicine of their own.

Mixing a splash of orange juice here, a trickle of food colouring there, and a dash of shaving foam in-between, the Dahl mega-fans put together an impressive concoction – even if it wasn't too easy to stomach!

Afterwards, the team turned their hand to designing and decorating their own bottles, as well as producing some fabulous artwork – something the older pupils enjoyed as well.

Key Stages One and Two spent their time creating their own characters, along with playing a guessing game, where they really put their art skills to the test, with classmates naming each character as they were drawn.

The groups also watched Puffin School's Roald Dahl Story Show, learning all about the author and his works – and they loved every minute, with each pupil holding a special place in their hearts for many of the renowned writer's stories.

Acting head teacher, Katie Robinson, was pleased to see the new school year begin with such a great day, and said: "“We are all delighted with how well each child has settled back in to school life and how happy they are to be back.

"We have been busy welcoming our new starters who have settled in remarkably well."

She added: "Although things are a little different now, everyone is excited to be starting a new school year and embracing Lamplugh life!”

From The Witches, The BFG, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Matilda to The Twits, Fantastic Mr Fox and more, everyone has their favourite story, with each book enjoyed by people of all ages.

Roald Dahl Day is celebrated throughout the UK and beyond each year, giving fans of his infamous tales the chance to truly appreciate his work.
