One devoted councillor has taken his love for the community a step further, bounding into a new role at his beloved football club.

Whitehaven AFC has officially welcomed Whitehaven town councillor Carl Walmsley onboard as the committee’s new vice chairman, with smiles all round thanks to the news.

The popular Mirehouse man is thrilled to add another job to his already packed list, including town councillor, Copeland Borough Councillor, founder of Mirehouse Matters and more.

He said: “As health and wellbeing champion I’ve been looking at getting more involved in local sports, and my playing days are behind me, so I saw the vacancy as a bit of a calling.

“I was down there with my son last Saturday watching the first team game, and I instantly got my buzz back for football after being away from the beautiful game for so long.”

Throughout his life, Carl has been a player, coach and committee member at St Bees, as well as playing two seasons at Whitehaven AFC, and is delighted to be able to work hard for the team once again in his new role.

He added: “

I’m really looking forward to this challenge, and I can’t wait to get involved with the other members of the committee who all seem very dedicated in moving this wonderful club even further forward.”
