Carlisle United’s game next week will be used as a test event to bring fans back into grounds.
The Blues' League Two away match at Cambridge United, on September 12, is one of two fixtures that will take place at Abbey Stadium, Cambridge, starting with the EFL Trophy fixture against Fulham U21s on September 8.
Cambridge United was chosen to host the events, having previously been part of a joint project by the EFL and the Sports Grounds Safety Authority (SGSA) that looked at social distancing at football grounds.
These events are for home fans only.
Lessons learnt from the games will be used to test the Government guidance and the SGSA’s guidance.
Carlisle chief executive Nigel Clibbens said: “We’re delighted to see fans back in football stadiums.
“It’s a good step forward, and we’re sure it will go well.
“Hopefully it’s the prelude to the next step which will be a return to getting as many fans as possible in our stadiums.
“As with any test, we’ll be able to look at the procedures used – where best practice can be implemented.”
